My "back porch" is my kitchen, my favorite room in the house. Come on in, the coffee is fresh, and I just made a pitcher of sweet tea. The cookies will be out in a minute. I have over 40 years of recipes to share with you, along with my opinion on everything. Oh my, you are right, it is cocktail time. What can I get you? Of course I can make you a Mint Julep! Stop by anytime, something is always cooking, and the back door is never locked.

Bon Appetit, Y'all

An Update From the Back Porch

So do not fear, for I am with you;
    do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
    I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
~Isaiah 41:10

This is Angie, Beverly’s niece, posted on her behalf.  I know many of her faithful followers have been wondering why they haven’t seen any new recipes for a while.

Beverly is quite ill.  She has non-small-cell lung cancer, which is treatable, but not curable.  She is exhausted, and the road ahead is hard.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

She has touched the lives of many, and if you’d like to leave her a comment wishing her well we’ll make sure she gets all your messages.  Hopefully she’ll be strong enough soon to be posting on her own, but until then, think of her when you prepare one of her recipes, and say a little prayer.

  1. Angie, I was so happy to see a post. I am praying for Bev since I heard this sad news. But she is a fighter and has so much heart and a beautiful spirit. I also sent a couple of emails, hope she received them. Give her a hug for me. xo

  3. I have only been reading Beverly's blog for a short time, but she immediately touched me with hers words. I have already been praying for her, as I assumed something must be wrong, for lack of updates. Very seldom, have I felt such a connection to person through just their writings, as I have Beverly. She's like an old friend, but then again, I have never seen her, heard her voice, or tasted one of her meals, but I somehow felt I would be welcomed at her table. I will continue to pray for her recovery as well as for those of you taking care of her. What a gift she must be to you, her family and friends. Thank her for her writing and her wit. I so look forward to hearing from her soon.

  4. Dear Bev, I have so enjoyed your posts. You have a lot of recipes I remember my Mom making - even tho I am probably older than you! I had been asking all my relatives if they had my Mom's recipe for Breaded Tomatoes and lo and behold, you had it. Thank you! My thoughts and prayers are with you Bev.

  28. I am so sorry to learn of Beverly's cancer. Cancer is an ugly vicious beast that I know all to well as I recently lost my father due to the same cancer; however, he was diagnosed far to late for any treatment.

    I am glad she is receiving treatment and it will be a hard road to travel. Please tell Beverly be strong in spirit and faith. To make sure she rests. And know there are so very many people praying for her.

    My thoughts and prayers are with Beverly as well as all of the family as she travels this path. As spirited as she seems to be I am sure she will be up and cooking once again. Sending well wishes from Ohio for speedy recovery.
