My "back porch" is my kitchen, my favorite room in the house. Come on in, the coffee is fresh, and I just made a pitcher of sweet tea. The cookies will be out in a minute. I have over 40 years of recipes to share with you, along with my opinion on everything. Oh my, you are right, it is cocktail time. What can I get you? Of course I can make you a Mint Julep! Stop by anytime, something is always cooking, and the back door is never locked.

Bon Appetit, Y'all

I Hate Walmart

Ranting and raving, why do I even bother. I have allowed a much dreaded trip to Walmart this morning to wreck my whole day, so far. I needed jelly jars and that was the easiest place to go. I arrived before 8:00 a.m. so I would not have to contend with the lines and "Walmart People". Of course there was only two lines open. A regular line and the 10 items or less. I had one case of jelly jars. Yep, the lady in front of me in the 10 items or less line was doing her monthly shopping. It's early in the day and my attitude is still under control. So I wait.

Now it's my turn to put my one item up to be scanned. She said to me, "Could you turn the box so the bar code is facing me". This is while she is chewing and blowing bubbles with her bubblegum. This is not a kid. She had to be 45 or older. She has never said good morning, drop dead or kiss my ass. Now the good attitude is gone and evil has appeared. For some reason I feel it is my duty to tell her how rude she is. This just comes as the biggest surprise to her and she said "I'm going to call the manager". Good. I'm dying to tell the manager about this bimbo. The assistant manager comes over and she must be twelve. I'm telling my story about the bimbo and you are not going to believe this. The assistant manager told me that Walmart did not have a "No bubblegum policy". You got it, and then she blew a big bubble right in my face.

Why is pleasing the customer and being polite and just good manners something these people are not trained to do? I wasn't raise like that. Why aren't these people just happy to have a job! No one else would hire them, that's for sure.

No, I really don't feel any better.

  1. Didn't you just want to slap her so hard the gum would fly out of her mouth? Good thing we were raised not to act on our violent impulses, huh? She was probably hoping to get fired so she can collect unemployment for the rest of the summer while she lounges by the pool . . . chewing gum. Seriously, when Michael ran a restaurant there were always people TRYING to get fired so they could go on unemployment - it boggles the mind.

  4. This was so rude on both of their parts. I detest going to Wal Mart and only go if absolutely necessary.

  5. This is just one example why I drive 14 miles south to shop and I am not the only one from our tiny hamlet to do this.

  6. well there goes Walmarts,, great customer relation work they do,, if you have ever been at Walmart early you see the managers and employees all in a circle in the main part of the store cheering,, the customer comes first always, ya right,,not only did the woman chewing the gum look bad so did the supervisor,, they should both be fired,I HATE walmart I'm sorry, I just do.We did'nt have them in Canada and everyone in our border town ran across the border to stock up on stuff not available here, now I'm not a snob at all but its just too big and I don't like fifty brands of something to pick from,, get in get out thats my shopping policy,,we have one here now and its packed all the time,, my husband goes and you can't beatthe prices honestly,, but I'n visual impaired and its not a good place for me,,I think you handled it well,,

  7. I dislike Walmart so much, for so many reasons, it is an absolute last resort for me to set foot in one. I'm so sorry that you had this bad experience. I would go online and file a complaint. The higher ups should know what is happening in their stores, and they won't unless the customer lets them know.

And I know that it is hard, but don't let those "lesser than slime balls", rob you of any more of your treasured thoughts that could be spent on much more pleasant things. .like sharing with us what you are putting in those jelly jars? :-)

  9. Oh Bev! If you want customer service, I don't think you'll find it at Walmart. Haha! I can just imagine what you must have gone through. So, what kind of jelly did you make?

  10. Send an e-mail to their corporate office. If that doesn't work, go higher on the ladder. They shouldn't treat customers like that.

  11. What a bad shopping experience! Where I live, the Walmart employees are polite. I do find attitude at a smaller grocery store. I guess it just depends on the particular Walmart.
